Day 131

In Strategic Communications, we discussed the characteristics of the typical person browsing a website: short attention span, impatiently seeking information and all too ready to go to another website to find it. (This doesn’t sound familiar, does it?)

We also looked at some some website design considerations, including viewer fatigue caused by long blocks of information, more legible font faces, choices of colour palette, organization of information so it can be easily found, and design of the “front page”.

Prof. Sandra Merk had also planned to take advantage of the college’s live internet connection in every classroom to show us various brewery websites such as Steam Whistle and Dogfish Head–as we considered the principles we were discussing, we would be able to see if actual breweries were following those principles.

As bad luck would have it, the college’s entire internet service went down just before the class started.

Ironic that a lecture about technology was nerfed by a breakdown in technology.
